A little time. A closer look.
Tsukiji’s outer market brings food shops, restaurants and kitchenware sellers together in a compact network of streets. It still serves food professionals as well as visitors. Choose a small taste, ask a question and notice the care behind everyday ingredients.
Something to notice
Compare the textures on a stall: woven baskets, polished blades or neatly wrapped food. Find one ingredient you do not recognize and ask the seller how it is used.
A little consideration
Eat in the place designated by the seller; keep narrow lanes and shop entrances clear. Ask before taking photos. Dispose of packaging as directed and respect working deliveries.
A small companion, in full.
